What does this mean for Performance Engineers and Testers?
- You need to learn Prometheus now! This includes PromQL.
- Load testing product vendors should integrate with Prometheus for monitoring under load. If they don’t already they probably will in the near future. Find out where your tool vendor stands on this feature in their product road map.
- Learn how to correlate existing monitor data with Prometheus metrics (whether K8s or traditional or bare metal servers).
- Don’t get overwhelmed with all the metrics possible. In the past this has caused many to just ignore monitoring as part of a load test and pushed that responsibility to others to look at. DON’T DO THIS!
