Let’s take a look at CRIBL and theri AppScope software.

Show Notes:

Cribl AppScope:

AppScope is black-box instrumentation, for “ubiquitous, unified telemetry” from any Linux executable. No agents. Open Source. Gives the metrics that APM tools do for the other 80% of the stuff not being monitored by companies because it is too expensive to do so. It complements existing APM and can send metrics to mainstream tools like Datadog, New Relic, and others.  Output format is NDJSON or StatsD. It has a CLI dashboard as well. It sits between the application and the OS.

Metrics include System Calls, System Resource Metrics, and REST API call payloads.

The single user experience is like strace meets tcpdump, but designed to be consumed by a human.
