Scott shares his thoughts around the Observability market for 2022.
Datadog – they have plans to become a larger Developer platform: https://www.businessinsider.com/datadog-ceo-developer-platform-company-cybersecurity-it-finance-2021-10 – getting into security and other spaces for the developer role. Further proof: https://www.cdpinstitute.org/news/in-brief-monitoring-and-security-company-datadog-launches-sensitive-data-scanner-a-new-service-to-help-customers-detect-classify-and-protect-sensitive-data-in-their-application-logs/ “Monitoring AND Security company”. The SaaS only offering isn’t for everyone.
Honeycomb – Started out as Observability and is not playing to the traditional APM space. SLO focused. Pricing structure may not be as flexible as some. More for newer companies who do not have the baggage from the past. Only a handful of integrations compared to others, but a more generous free plan. Seems more for the mid-tier right now.
IBM (Instana) – Not a complete solution, but getting there. They JUST announced End User Monitoring. Unclear how they integrate within IBM as a whole (does it compete with Tivoli or any of the other monitoring solutions)? What about integration with load testing for monitoring?
Observability platforms all struggle with pricing models.
Observability platforms like Datadog and Dynatrace are expanding into the security (SIEM) realms.
